Graduate Student Summit for Diversity in Economics

September 28-29, 2018 the
David Brower Center, UC Berkeley

Our goal

Bring together graduate students, professors, and other economists who are committed to promoting diversity in economics to discuss the state of gender, racial, and LGBTQIA representation in economics, to share learning between BEE (formerly WEB) and groups like it on other campuses, and to foster networking between graduate students across different institutions.

Schedule & takeaways

The full schedule can be downloaded at this link.

With the help of many volunteer note-takers and workshop leaders, we collected extensive notes on the conversations that took place during the workshops we held at the Summit for Diversity in Economics in September 2018.  Please use these Workshop Briefs to improve inclusivity and awareness of bias in your own departments and communities!

Resources

Given the personal and loaded nature of this conference and the concurrent political climate and events, we want to provide people with some resources that may be helpful.
  • Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) phone hotline (https://www.rainn.org/about-national-sexual-assault-telephone-hotline)
  • Crisis Text Line (https://www.crisistextline.org/)
Both are confidential resources with trained staff/volunteers. From RAINN: "Anyone affected by sexual assault, whether it happened to you or someone you care about, can find support on the National Sexual Assault Hotline. You can also visit online.rainn.org to receive support via confidential online chat."

*Please be in touch if you believe there are other resources we could be providing.*
